What to see in Villajoyosa
The city walls, dating from the 16th century illustrate how defence from attacks by Berber pirates was so important. The fortress church of the Asuncion in the historic quarter is a fine piece of religious architecture. Of Catalan-Gothic style, it dates from the 16th century. There are several watch towers in the area, built to warn of attacks. These include the Tower of San Jose (of Roman origin), the Torre de El Xarco and the Torre del Aguilo. |

The promenade in Villajoyosa
This is where you will find the most colour in Villajoyosa. The beautiful promenade is lined with cafes and bars, fine restaurants and a row of brightly coloured houses. The houses are similar to those that hang over the river bed in the town centre. The style of house is typical of a small fishing village. When the light is right (mornings), the houses make an excellent photo opportunity. |
