Relleu is a small, rural town on the Costa Blanca, located inland from Villajoyosa and Benidorm. Access is via the CV775. Relleu sits in a valley surrounded by mountains.

There are few streets in Relleu so it's easy to navigate. It remains a perfect place to observe typical Spanish life and has a wealth of history. There is a museum within the town, the Museo de Relleu. It is located just off Calle del Ajuntament.

During Roman times Relleu would possibly have been part of the Roman administration of nearby Villajoyosa. Important Roman remains have been found in the town including the burial stone of Paccius.

Prior to the Romans, Relleu boasts a history dating back at least four centuries. There was once an Iberian settlement here.

Relleu is overlooked by the ruins of an 11th century castle, built by the Moors.

The Parish Church of St.James was first built in the 17th century on the site of a Moorish cemetery. It was demolished in the 19th century then re-built by 1931. 5 years later it was burned during the Civil War. The bells of the church are famous as they are the oldest in the province. During the Civil War the bells were almost taken away by the militia. If it wasn't for the Mayor of the time, Don Francisco Carbonell i Clement, who refused to hand over the bells, they would have been lost forever. The three bells date from 1790-1873.
