Els Calderas
Museum,
Mallorca
Els
Calderas is located close to Manacor off the Algaida to Vilafranca road and is one of the most
impressive manor houses on Mallorca. It has now been converted
to a very interesting museum and is well worth a visit.
Idealspain reviewed the museum in October 2003. |

The
museum makes a great family day out and the children
will especially enjoy the animals on the farm. The entry
price is approx. 7 euros for adults. The main building
dates from around 1750 and has extensive gardens. Much
of the house survived on the grape and cereal crops
and evidence of this is presented in the artefacts on
display. |

|
You
are presented with a printed guide that guides you through
the various rooms of the house, each one numbered. In
the vine room you have the chance to sample some of
the local wines. |

Interesting
rooms include the kitchens, staff quarters, bedrooms,
workshops and many more. Each is set up as it would have
been in the days of the house functioning. |

The
visit represents excellent value for money. The museum
is easy to find and can be visited as part of a coach
excursion or by your own means. There is a small cafe
with refreshments although we found it to be unimpressive
and of poor quality. Toilets are clean. |
