Pujerra is a small white village (Pueblo Blanco) in the province of Malaga and the region of Andalucia. This village is steeped in history and is the site of the deserted medieval village of Cenay.

| Pujerra is probably best known for the forests that surround it - thousands of chestnut trees. Pujerra has always been the chestnut capital of Andalucia and has always depended on the annual crop for its survival. The village is one of the smallest in the region with around 350 residents. Most of them work in the chestnut industry in some way during the harvest season. |

In early November, there is a festival of chestnuts, dedicated to the Patron Saint, Virgen de Fatima. |

| Getting to Pujerra is not the easiest of tasks. The simplest route is via the A376 from San Pedro in the direction of ronda. |

| On arrival in Pujerra you will find little to see, other than the huge quantity of chestnut trees. The main plaza houses a 16th century church, dedicated to Espirito Santo. It was remodelled in the 18th century. |

The palza Iglesia, the location for the curch, is where most fiestas take place. It's also a popular meeting place for locals.
If you go into the chucrh you will see that it's a small church but has some wonderful statues of the saints such as Fatima (the patron) and St.Antonio. There's a small balcony overlooking the pews. |

Visiting Pujerra
Pujerra is a wonderful little village that is worthy of the hard work to get there. The access road is not the best in Spain but if you take care, it's a pleasant drive. The road takes you right through the heart of the chestnut forests. There are a couple of small bars in Pujerra where you will receive a warm welcome. The food is wholesome and very cheap.
From Pujerra, follow the road in the direction of Ronda to take in several other small villages, each with their own unique character.
