Blood sausage - Last Sunday in April
The Virgen de la Cabeza is the Patron Saint who is celebrated with a buffet of more than 300kg of blood sausages. Blood sausages have been popular for many years but here they are prepared with onions and a range of condiments. The celebrations here last several days and start with a floral offering in the church. A mass is then held followed by a procession where an image of the Virgen is carried through the streets. After she is placed in the temples the blood sausage feast begins at around 2pm. Thousands of people gather at the points where the sausages are served. They are washed down with lots of free beer and wine. Flamenco shows are also provided. Spain has more than 30 types of blood sausage and each region has its own varities.
