Hugging the
coastline of the
Costa del Sol,
in the region of
Andalucia
is this little
piece of paradise.
At the heart of
this fast
developing centre
is a wonderful,
quaint marina
built with more
than 300 berths.
There are no
high-rise hotels
here but ample
apartments for
rent. The area is
undergoing a
property boom.
Along the
waterfront is a
wide variety of
restaurants and
bars, topped with
apartments looking
out over the boats
although there are
very few shops in
the port. The port
was once described
as the next Puerto
Banus. It has
however retained
its charm and its
quiet environment.
The port is
flanked by two
very long, sandy
beaches with their
own beach bars.
One beach
stretches to the
left as far as
Sabinillas and on
to Estepona, the other one winds round the coast to Sotogrande |
|
Over the last five
years, several new
blocks of
apartments have
been built around
the marina which
has to some effect
closed the port in
a little. Property
development
continues in the
area, especially
on the other side
of the N340 at Los
Hidalgos and
Duquesa Golf where
several new
urbanisations have
been built. The
golf course at
Duquesa has also
undergone massive
improvements. |
|
|
|
The main N340
highway passes
Duquesa which is
accessed by an
underpass. On the
other side of the
road is Duquesa
Golf, a wonderful
course with views
over the sea and
its own hotel.
Golf villas and
apartments line
the edge of the
course. Property
is being built
here at an
alarming rate.
There is an
ever-increasing
English speaking
population here.
In the summer
months there is a
tiny street market
along the
waterside offering
all manner of
local goods. The
waterfront to the
marina is closed
to normal traffic
making it a safe
haven for
children.

As well as modern
pleasure vessels,
the port is still
home to a working
fishing fleet and
daily catches are
landed here. There
are all marine
facilities here
including storage.
The port offers
very reasonably
priced berths
although there is
often a long
waiting list.
There are also
refuelling
facilities for
boats in the port.
The boatyard
offers renovation
space and a
lifting service. |
|
|
|
Other facilities
in the area
include;
A campsite and
caravan park on
the N340 Highway
about 1 mile from
Duquesa Port.
A petrol station
on the N340
Highway about half
a mile from
Duquesa Port.
Sunday market and
car boot sale at
Sabinillas, two
minutes walk from
the port.
Specialist
golf holidays
based in the port.
