The train leaves Denia railways station towards Alicante, on line 9 (grey). Purchase your ticket at the ticket office or using the machine on the train. The tarin runs as far as Benidorm, where you change tracks and take the L1 (red) to Alicante. The best station to get off, for the historic centre in the Mercado station (pictured right). This underground station is two streets away from the large indoor market. There are escalators to ground level and the station is fully wheelchair friendly, with lifts.

Using the train

To board the train, press the button on the door and it will open, whilst at the platform. Have your ticket ready for inspection. If you have not purchased a ticket in advance, you can use the machine on the train. It takes cash and credit cards. The fine for not having a ticket is €50.

Whilst on the train, which are immaculately clean, safe and almost new, you can enjoy the wonderful scenery. To see the best scenery, sit on the left when leaving Denia. There are displays in each carriage showing the next station. These are also announced, often in English. For smaller stations, you may have to press the button to request a stop.

On the train - no smoking and no animals allowed. Do not travel with no shirt on.

There are toilets at Benidorm where you will have 15-30 minutes to change tracks.
Watche the timetable closely as in the evening, the last train from Alicante does NOT have a connection from Altea to Denia and you will be left stranded in Altea.
