Places in Spain - Luanco in Asturias

Idealspain visited Luanco in Asturias as part of our northern coast tour in July 2013.

Luanco is a town within the Gozon area of Asturias. Situated on the coast, it lies between Candas and Banugues. This holiday resort boasts three splendid, sandy beaches. The largest beach is the Playa de Luanco, the next being Playa de la Ribera. The smallest beach is Playa de Samarinchon. There are several other beaches located outside the main town area, to the south, the Playas de los Boletos, Playa de el Dique and Playa Aramar. Opposite these smaller beaches you can see the Isla Carmen with the church of Carmen at its peak.

The town of Luanco is well worth a visit. Explore the narrow streets and small shops. This was and still is to some extent a maritime town and the evidence is everywhere. There’s still a working fishing port here as well as a sports marina.

One of the nicest pieces of architecture in Luanco has to be the Church of San Juan Bautista, located right alongside the main beach.
