There is no shortage of British builders and
tradesmen in Spain that will assist you in your home
improvement project. However, make sure that before you part
with any money, you check them out, especially asking for
references of past customers.
Be careful if you employ Spanish contractors as language
may be a problem.
All major extensions must have planning permission, the
same as the UK so check with the local council first.
Gas fitters
When employing a gas
fitter in Spain, the fitter might claim to have Corgi
registration. Be aware that this means nothing in Spain. Spain
has it's own set of regulations and guidelines. We have heard
of fitters claiming Corgi membership when they haven't. They
assume that in Spain nobody will check them out.
Plumbers
Plumbing in Spain is similar to the UK but all fittings are
different. Make sure your plumber is conversant with the
Spanish systems. Don't be tempted to fit UK plumbing to a
property as you will not get spares in the future.
Electricians
Electricians with UK qualifications may do a perfectly good
job but be aware that UK qualifications do not apply in Spain.
In the event of an accident, many insurance companies will
refuse to pay out if you have had work done by an unqualified
electrician. |
