Villajoyosa

The history of Villajoyosa dates back to the Bronze Age and the early Iberians and the Romans settled here. The Archaeological Museum is full of exhibits including items found at the nearby necropolis at Poble Nou. Villajoyosa was known in Roman times as 'Alone', a city of great importance.

Villajoyosa

La Villa Joyosa translates as 'Joyful City' and it certainly lives up to its name. Although the original castle is no longer standing, there are some superb city walls to be seen, dating from the 16th century.

The promenade in Villajoyosa

This is where you will find the most colour in Villajoyosa. The beautiful promenade is lined with cafes and bars, fine restaurants and a row of brightly coloured houses. The houses are similar to those that hang over the river bed in the town centre. The style of house is typical of a small fishing village. When the light is right (mornings), the houses make an excellent photo opportunity.
