A
small
cathedral
city
in the
province
of
Salamanca
with a
population
of
around
14,000.
The
city
has
been
occupied
since
Neolithic
times.
The
cathedral
has
some
fine
sculpture
work
and is
worthy
of a
visit
and
the
place
to
rest
is the
Plaza
Mayor.
Although
this
plaza
is no
comparison
to
that
in
Salamanca,
it is
still
a good
place
to
take
coffee
and
watch
the
people
passing
by.
The
city
was
declared
a
Historic
and
Artistic
location
in
1994.
This
declaration
has
boosted
the
number
of
visitors
to
Ciudad
Rodrigo.
This
city
was
the
site
of one
of the
British
Army's
most
difficult
battles
against
Napoleon
on the
8th
January
1812.
