Castrolpol is a village in western
Asturias. Described by the local
authorities as a 'natural paradise',
they are accurate with their
description. Because of its location,
the area combines a wonderful
landscape, combined with tiny beaches,
coves, valleys and rivers.

mouth
of the
Eo
River
forms
a
natural
boundary
with
the
region
of
Galicia.
The
river
is
almost
10km
long
and
averages
800m
in
width.
It has
been
designated
a
protected
area
due to
the
wildlife
present.

The
village
is
situated
on a
small
hill
and
consists
of
white
houses
with
slate
roofs.
The
church
dominates
the
village
skyline.
The
village
still
boasts
original
cobbled
streets.
The
area
still
houses
some
ancient
secrets
in the
form
of at
least
9
'castros',
(hill
forts).
Some
of
them
still
to be
excavated.
Castrolpol
was
once
the
chief
town
in the
area
and
the
council
commanded
a
fifth
of the
region
of
Asturias.
In
1587,
on the
night
of
28th
October,
a
massive
fire
swept
through
the
village
and
destroyed
the
village
and
all
its
art
treasures. |

local
economy
is
predominantly
based
around
agriculture
and
cattle
raising
although
the
tourism
industry
is
beginning
to
take
hold.
A

to
Castrolpol
will
reward

fine
buildings
including
churches,
palaces
and

splendid
gardens.
The
river
offers
a
multitude
of
water
sports
and
the
Asturian
boat race
championships
are
held
here
each
