Park Guell in Barcelona, work of Gaudi
Park Guell Barcelona

Park Guell, open 10am-9pm, is one of Barcelona's largest urban parks. It was originally designed to be an English style garden city. The familiar Gaudi curves and mosaic work are evident all over the park, such as the benches, pictured right.
Within the 20 hectares park you will also find two pavillions joined by a dividing wall that sets the main entrance apart from Carrer Olot. The hall of 96 columns serves as a support for the upper plaza which was once intended to be the open forum of the new 'garden city' development.

Pictured left is the staircase that leads from the church and cafe/tourist shop. Note the unique mosaic dragon fountain.

The columns in the hall are hollow and form part of Gaudi's clever drainage system for the square above. Between the columns are several 'suns', created from broken china, tiles and bottles.(see photo)
