Barcelona
Montjuic

Montjuic, called Hill of the Jews after a Jewish necropolis there, gained fame in 1929 as the site of the World's Fair and again in 1992 as the location for the summer Olympic Games. its main attractions are the Olympic installations, the Spanish Village and the hilltop fortress.

Although buses and taxis can be taken from Plaza de Espana to Montjuic, the best way to get there is by cablecar and tram. The cablecar departs from Port Vell and costs around 1.200ptas one-way. The views of the city from the glass car are quite breath-taking.

The whole of Montjuic is covered in ornamental gardens with water features and is the most popular destination in Barcelona on Sundays.

From the gun positions overlooking the sea and the port, splendid views can be had.

The Olympic stadium and the Olympic diving pool are located lower down the hill.
