St.Anthony's Fiesta - Alhaurin el Grande (Malaga) 17th January

On January 17th, Saint Anthony is celebrated with the traditional Mass in the chapel There is then a blessing of animals and pets, and the subsequent image procession through the streets of the neighborhood of “El Chorro”.

The most important fiesta in Alhaurin el Grande takes place on January 20th, the day of Saint Sebastian, Patron of the town which is revered and worshiped in the chapel that bears his name. At the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, the image is transferred from his hermitage to the parish of Our Lady of the Incarnation, where he officiates a solemn religious function with the assistance of authorities and local associations.

The Brotherhood of Santa Vera Cruz is located in the canon of the convent chapel, whose construction was completed in 1920.  It is located on the remains of an old Franciscan monastery that was destroyed by the French during the War of Independence.  In their retreat, they caused the explosion and the death of nearly a hundred residents.

La Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno is based on canonical Ermita de San Sebastian, built before the conquest by Ferdinand and Isabella in the fifteenth century, which is an ancient Arab shrine subsequently transformed into a chapel.
