The Cattle Fair in Coin is one of the oldest in Spain and was started by King Charles II in 1765. The fair is an attempt to preserve Spanish cattle breeds and is taken very seriously.
Over the years, negotiations were made and agreements were sealed with a simple handshake. Some negotiations lasted for days. The fair used to be supported by bullfights at which cattle raisers would provide young bulls. Although it is a cattle fair, trades are also made in local produce such as lemons, peppers and tomatoes. |
